Oracy

Statement of Intent for Oracy

Rationale

As a school we strive to develop every child’s Oracy skills. We recognise that being able to communicate effectively is key to children’s well-being, enabling them to grasp opportunities that will allow them to reach their potential.

Being able to express themselves confidently will allow our children to build and develop relationships, empowering them to play their part as citizens of the world.

Curriculum design for Oracy:

Oracy skills are taught and used daily. However, Oracy is not seen as a subject to be taught but rather as a method of teaching. Oracy runs through teaching and learning in all areas of the curriculum, as effective communication skills enable the children to fully access the curriculum. The school has an Oracy Charter which outlines expectations around speaking and listening for the whole school community.
