Rationale

We strive to inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people. Our curriculum equips our pupils with knowledge about diverse places and people.

Through our Geography curriculum, we teach appropriate subject knowledge, skills and understanding matched to at least the expectations of the EYFS Framework using Development Matters guidance and the Key Stage 1 & 2 National Curriculum Programmes of Study.

Years 1-6 National Curriculum: Geography

Curriculum design for Geography:

The design of our Geography curriculum is supported by the Cornerstones resources. As the children progress through the school, we teach a layering of knowledge and skills for Geography, mainly through cross-curricular topics. Although some skills may be taught discretely, this means that Geography is not taught in isolation, and wherever appropriate it is linked to other areas of the curriculum, giving children the opportunities to develop and reinforce knowledge and skills already established in context.
