Statement of Intent for Art and Design

Rationale

Art gives children a creative outlet. We aim to provide children with the skills which enable them to express themselves creatively. Giving children a sound foundation in a range of artistic media, enables this creative expression and gives them a powerful means of communication.

EYFS Framework

Years 1-6 National Curriculum: Art and design

Curriculum design for Art and Design:

The design of our Art curriculum is supported by the Cornerstones resources. As the children progress through the school, we teach a layering of knowledge and skills for Art, mainly through cross-curricular topics. Although some content may be taught discretely, this means that Art is not taught in isolation, and wherever appropriate it is linked to other areas of the curriculum, giving children the opportunities to develop and reinforce knowledge and skills already established in context.
