Statement of Intent for Art and Design
To develop children’s ability to express themselves creatively. To enable them to use a range of skills and media to achieve this.
Art and Design content
In Art and Design, we teach at least the expectations of the EYFS Framework using Development Matters guidance and the Key Stage 1 & 2 National Curriculum Programmes of Study.
Below you will find an overview of what your child will be expected to learn in each of the Key Stages.
Curriculum design for Art and Design:
The design of our Art and Design curriculum is supported by the Cornerstones resources. As the children progress through the school, we teach a layering of knowledge and skills for Art and Design, mainly through cross-curricular topics. Although some content may be taught discretely, this means that Art and design is not taught in isolation, and wherever appropriate it is linked to other areas of the curriculum, giving children the opportunities to develop and reinforce knowledge and skills already established in context.
Curriculum Choices for Art and Design:
- Inclusion of art and design in special whole school days are periodically organised and have included themes such as Round the World Day and other major national events.
