Jordan Garratt is an advocate for inclusive education, best known for her Sensory Classroom approach, which focuses on creating adaptive, sensory-friendly environments to support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Central to her work is a core communication programme designed to enhance the way children with SEND express themselves and interact with others. This programme emphasizes the use of visual aids, simplified language, and alternative communication methods such as Makaton and AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) tools. Garratt’s approach not only addresses sensory regulation through calming spaces and sensory resources but also prioritizes meaningful communication as the foundation for learning and emotional development. By combining sensory strategies with her structured communication framework, she empowers educators to build more inclusive, responsive classrooms where every child’s voice is heard and valued.
