WELCOME TO HAWK CLASS!

 

Welcome to The Hawk Class pages.

 We have lots of interesting topics planned for this year and are looking forward to working with a new group of Y5/6 children. 

Hawk class is taught by Miss Baker. Out Teaching assistants are: Mrs Gray, Miss Pickford, Mrs Kosinska, Mr Sinclair and Mrs Spearing.

PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. Please ensure your child has a full PE kit  that they keep in school. They will need a tracksuit or leggings and trainers for outdoor PE.

Link books need to be in school every day and the 5 weekly reads should be recorded in them. 

 Junior Good Citizen

On 9th June, Eldene Year 6 went to the Junior Good Citizen morning. 

We learned about 

  • The dangers of carrying knives
  • Online safety
  • What is a hate crime?
  • Why vaping is bad for you 
  • County Lines and 
  • Road Safety

PGL!

Some of our Year 6s spend the weekend at PGL they got up to lots of activities from Fencing to Ziplining, from Archery to a Campfire. 

 

 

 

Term 6

Darwin's Delights is our topic for this term and we are really excited to be learning about Darwin's journey to The Galapagos Islands, his discoveried there and his theories on the origin of species. 

 

For our Hook Day we:

  • Hunted for snakes
  • Played the traditional board game of Snakes and Ladders and 
  • Made prints of our favourite mini beasts.

Term 5:

Roll up! Roll up! All the fun of the fair. Yes, this term our topic is Scream Machine!

We will be looking at all things to do with faigrounds, theme parks and carnivals. It promises to be a lively and colourful term. 

On Hook Day, we set up lots of activities for the children, such as they might find in a fairground. We had: popcorn. a coconut shy, Hook a Duck, Photo booth and lots more.

Term 4

Blood Heart

This term Year 5 and 6 our topic is Blood heart, this means we are learning all about the heart and the circulatory system. On our hook day, we acted out the process of the heart, took part in some first aid, made some art to demonstrate the oxygenated and deoxygenated blood and we even saw a dissection of a real sheep's heart!

Y6 had a visit from Charlotte from UTURN who made us aware of the risks and dangers of drugs, alcohol, vapes and cigarettes. 

Some of the children tried out the cannabis and beer goggles which demonstrated the effects of those sun=bstances.

 Term 3

Gallery Rebels

 

This term, the theme of our learning is art, WE will be learning about artists; finding out about different art movements and trying out different art techniques. We were lucky enough to have a visit by a local art collector, who shared some of his huge collection of art with us. 

The children made sketches of the pictures he showed us.

 Term 1&2: 

This term we are learning about the Victorians. It is a fascinating period of history, with many changes and innovations and we are sure we are going to enjoy it!

Revolution Hook Day

 Our Hook Day was based around the Victorians:

 

We had a carousel of activities which included:

  • Singing 'All Things Bright and Beautiful'
  • Handwriting practice on slates
  • Making lavender bags
  • Victorian parlour games and 
  • Times tables chanting

 STEAM Trip

In November, Y5/6 were lucky enough to be invited to The Steam Museum in Swindon. We spent the day, looking at the museum exhibits; watching an interactive performance about town planning, which involved a top secret mission and taking part in a workshop, involving Brunel!

It was a fantastic day!
