There are a number of 'safer' sites on the internet, designed for children. Many of them are moderated, which means that before any comments or messages can be posted on the site, they will be 'proof-read' by an adult to make sure they are not unkind or inappropriate.

A free site for children aged 2 - 7, with a range of games and activities

CBBC

The BBC site for 6 - 12 year olds, also free

Club Penguin

A very popular site with free membership, although by paying the subscription fee, the site becomes secure and moderated

Neopets

A virtual pets website for younger children

Grid Club

An educational site for 5 to 12 year olds. There is an annual subscription charge and the site is fully-moderated
